Yoga Offerings

body, mind, breath

Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice that originated in ancient India over 5,000 years ago. The term "yoga" comes from the Sanskrit word yuj, which means "to unite" or "to join," referring to the connection between the body, mind, and spirit. It aims to cultivate balance, harmony, and well-being in all aspects of life.

Key elements of Yoga

Physical postures (Asana): These are various body positions designed to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and overall health. They can range from simple stretches to complex poses.

Breath control (Pranayama): Controlled breathing techniques help regulate the flow of energy (prana) in the body, reduce stress, and improve focus and relaxation.

Meditation and Mindfulness: Yoga incorporates meditation to calm the mind, enhance self-awareness, and promote mental clarity. Mindfulness in yoga encourages being present in the moment.

Ethical principles (Yamas and Niyamas): These are moral guidelines for living a balanced and compassionate life, emphasizing values such as nonviolence, truthfulness, and self-discipline.

Spirituality: In its traditional form, yoga is seen as a path to spiritual enlightenment or self-realization, connecting practitioners to a higher consciousness or divine energy.

While yoga is rooted in Hindu philosophy, it has been globally embraced for its physical and mental health benefits.

FAQs

What if I’m not flexible?

Practicing yoga is NOT about being flexible! It’s about connecting the body, mind, and breath together. Asana (postures) tend to be a big part of yoga practice here in the west and in yoga therapy, and Kat’s approach is to customize the posture to the body, not the other way around.

What is private yoga?

Private yoga refers to one-on-one yoga sessions tailored specifically to an individual's needs, goals, and level of experience.
