Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine

Holistic health, inside & out.

What is Chinese Medicine?

Chinese medicine, also known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is a holistic approach to health and wellness that has been practiced for thousands of years in China.

It encompasses various therapeutic methods and philosophies, including:

Acupuncture: Involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow and promote healing.

Acupressure: Similar to acupuncture, but uses gentle pressure on acupoints instead of needles.

Herbal Medicine: Utilizes a wide range of plant-based substances, minerals, and animal products in various combinations to address health conditions and restore balance.

Qi Gong: These are forms of gentle exercise and movement that enhance the flow of "qi" (vital energy) and improve overall health and well-being.

Dietary Therapy: Focuses on the impact of food and nutrition on health, emphasizing the balance of different types of foods and their effects on the body.

Massage and Tuina: These are techniques involving manual manipulation of the body to improve circulation, relieve pain, and restore balance.

Diagnosis: TCM practitioners use pulse diagnosis, tongue examination, and detailed questioning to understand a patient's condition and determine the appropriate treatment.

Central to TCM is the concept of "qi" (or "chi"), which is considered the vital energy or life force that flows through the body and is essential for health. TCM also emphasizes the balance between opposing forces, known as "yin" and "yang," and the interaction of these forces with the body's organs and systems. The goal of TCM is to maintain or restore balance and harmony within the body to prevent and treat illness.

FAQs

What if I’m afraid of needles?

Chinese medicine is much more than acupuncture, so if you don’t like needles, we don’t have to use them! I treat patients using various modalities, such as acupressure, qi gong, herbal medicine, meditation, dietary therapy, breathwork, yoga therapy, and more.

How big are the needles?

We use tiny, filiform, single-use, stainless steel needles that are thinner than a human hair! Most people barely feel them when they go in. The sensation is often likened to a bug bite.

How often do I have to come to acupuncture for it to work?

This is different for everyone, but if you’re dealing with a chronic issue, generally I say let’s give it 10 treatments and go from there. The closer together your first 10 treatments are, the better results you will have, usually. Treatments are comprehensive and cumulative, meaning they build on each other and affect your whole body. So if you come once a month as opposed once a week, it’s likely going to take that much longer for your issue to shift.

Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance for a lot of reasons, but I do offer what are called superbills to my patients on request. Superbills are similar to receipts, and they may be submitted to insurance for reimbursement. The percentage of reimbursement depends on your insurance provider and your plan. The majority of my patients who submit superbills receive partial or full reimbursement.

What other Chinese Medicine modalities do you offer?

I offer cupping, gua sha, Chinese dietary therapy, lifestyle coaching, qi gong, meditation, breathwork, heat lamp therapy, acupressure, NADA detoxification, and Chinese Herbal consultation.
